Digitalization

Ordering online with J.Crew is simplistic and stress-free. The website is designed with the categories of merchandise at the top and from there they are organized by style and classifications. Once you have a selected an item that you wish to purchase you can select the size and color of the garment. It is then added to your virtual shopping bag where you can then log into a preexisting account with J.Crew or create one. Once in the account you can manage preferences of your account and enter your information for billing and shipping. From there you can further track your order status through your J.Crew account. Custom colors of some merchandise is offered on the website which makes it different than other retailers who offer much fewer colors. There is even an option for those who do not want to create an account to log in as a guest customer so none of their information is saved. The J.Crew website is a leader amongst other online retailers and they have done an excellent job at improving their website over the years. The picture above is data collected about J.Crew. The J.Crew website is relatively fast in download time. There is opportunity for growth is transferring data to the computer through a mobile commerce app which J.Crew is not yet participating in, other than consumers accessing their website through their mobile phones. Threats to J.Crew could be retailers who’s website is just as digitalized and also incorporated other modes of commerce such as mobile commerce or a smartphone application. Despite having a tough fourth quarter last year J.Crew had a profitable year and the expenditures towards their website proved to be worthwhile.
